Blue Springs Current Conditions

This data were obtained via Volusia County Environmental Management and reflects the best available water quality information. An effort is underway to make this data available real time, however, at the time this dashboard was created the real-time data connection was not available.

Data may be changed after review due to factors that may have been affected the sensor reading including: 1) algal and aquatic growth in the stream, 2) downstream river water backing into spring, 3) sediment movement, and 4) malfunction of recording equipment.

Total Nitrogen

According to the Volusia Blue Spring Basin Management Action Plan, DEP adopted total maximum daily loads, or TMDLs, for Volusia Blue Spring and Blue Spring Run which established a monthly average nitrate target of 0.35 milligrams per liter (mg/L).

Total Phosphorus

According to FDEP’s 2014 Final TMDL report, phosphorus was not considered a target nutrient due to naturally occurring sources though, in general, 0.12 mg/L of Total Phosphorus should not be exceeded more than once within a three-year period.

Flow

According to FDEP’s 2014 Final TMDL report, the SJRWMD established a minimum flow regime in 2006. This minimum flow regime was targeted at 133 cubic feet per second (cfs) by 2009 and up to 157 cfs minimum long-term mean flow by March 2024.
